Getting started
What happens when you clear OBD-II codes?
A clear command can erase diagnostic evidence and reset emissions readiness. Save the complete scan and fix the underlying issue before using it.
Before you press clear
Record stored and pending codes, freeze frames and readiness status. Note the date, mileage and whether the engine was hot or cold when you first saw the warning.
What may change after clearing
The light may go out and monitors can show incomplete until the vehicle reruns its tests. A permanent code stays until the system verifies that the issue is resolved.
How to check after a repair
Follow the manufacturer’s verification procedure. Rescan under safe conditions and compare codes and monitor results. If you are heading to an inspection, check the program’s current criteria before retesting.
