Why a small leak is tricky

A worn seal or a valve that only leaks in certain conditions may look fine from outside. A smoke or other OEM-specified leak test can help distinguish the filler seal, lines and valve problems.

The repair may take time to verify

The EVAP monitor needs enabling conditions before it can run again. Check its readiness status and whether the code returns instead of judging the repair only by the light.

Look for companion EVAP codes

Record P0455 or P0456 if the scan also shows them. Nissan documents a shared starting flowchart for those codes and P0442 on the vehicles covered by its bulletin.
